As of October 2009 we have admitted numbers 1 – 45 on the waiting list to our current sophomore class. We do not anticipate adding any more students to this class as we originally over enrolled. We currently have 185 students in this class, and we will not fill any openings unless we drop below 150.

Student Application Information

October 12, 2009

Dear 8th grade Parent and Student,

It is our distinct pleasure to announce the application period for Antioch Unified School District Pathway Programs for the 2010-2011 school year. These include Dozier-Libbey Medical High School (DLMHS), Delta Academy for the Performing Arts, Deer Valley Law Academy and Antioch High School’s new Engineering and Design Academy. The Antioch Unified School District is proud to offer these academic career-themed high school programs. This year we have almost 600 students participating in these successful programs.

The exciting and engaging curriculum in all of our Pathway Programs will prepare students for success in college and careers. The career theme will be integrated throughout most subject areas.  In addition, exciting hands-on, project-based instructional activities will be a key part of every student’s program. Students will experience work-based learning opportunities that may include activities such as job shadowing, guest speaker presentations, guided study tours of industry facilities and colleges, service learning opportunities, and internships based on area of study.  Graduates of all Pathway Programs will be well prepared to enter a California four-year college or university and/or pursue careers in their area of study.  There will be opportunities to earn college credit during these programs and, in some pathways, to pursue certificate programs, if interested.   These programs are rigorous and challenging; however, with this style of instruction, any student who is interested and willing to work hard can succeed!

Applications for the 2010-2011 school year will be available October 19, 2009 at parent orientations, middle schools, and on our district website. Applications are due December 11, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. Students will be chosen by a random lottery drawing. All applications will enter the same lottery with no priority given to when the application is received. Applications received after the deadline will not be included in the lottery. Lottery results will be mailed to each applicant with lottery status. You are encouraged to take care in prioritizing pathway choices. If a student is selected in the lottery to attend the pathway identified as their first choice, the student will not be included in other pathway lotteries.

A parent/guardian must attend one orientation meeting for each academy you are applying to, as a requirement of the application process. Dates and times for these meetings are on the back of this letter, and will also be posted on the district website. Applications will be handed out at the parent meetings or can be downloaded from the district website. To learn more about our programs or to download an application, visit our website at www.antioch.k12.ca.us

Sincerely,

Donald Gill, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Informational Meetings for current 8th grade parents are listed below. You must attend an orientation for each pathway school selected on the application. Students may attend an evening meeting, but are not required to as all 8th grade students at our district middle schools will see this same presentation at their school during the school day in October.
Dec. 11, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. is the deadline to turn in applications to the District Office at 510 G. Street! Late applications will not be accepted.
